PARISH NEWS

Peace & Justice Group

Many thanks to Janet Twomey from Trocaire and to all those who came to her talk on 6th June on Climate Justice. This is probably the most challenging issue facing the world today. In the words of Maximilian Kolbe “The most deadly poison of our time is indifference”.  Justice and Peace group.

Comhghairdeas Scoil Eoin

We have had several achievements to celebrate in the past few weeks. Scoil Eoin was awarded the Gaelbhratach for the excellent standard of spoken Irish in the school and for the promotion of a positive attitude to our native language within the community. This flag will be officially raised by Seán Óg Ó hAilpín on June 20th at 1pm.  Fáilte roimh chách.

We have received an Award of Excellence for the STEM subjects, Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths. Expertise from within the school staff & the support of parents & others with expertise has contributed to our high standard in these areas.

Last week we were surprised by a visit from the County Mayor, Declan Hurley. He presented Scoil Eoin with a cheque for €400 as the winning school in the Age of Revolutions 1916-23 History Project Competition organised by Skibbereen Heritage Centre. Kevin Dart-O’Flynn from 6th class also won the best individual award from 177 submissions entered by schools in West Cork. All of the students’ projects will be archived and available to view at the Heritage Centre.  As another school year draws to a close we wish all Scoil Eoin families a happy & safe summer break. Bíodh samhradh iontach agaibh.

Scoil Mhaoiíosa

Gardens & Galleries

On Sat 7th and Sun 8th Innishannon will again host Gardens and Galleries. This year ten gardens and eight art exhibitions will be on view.  A mini vintage show in the forecourt of Bernard Car Sales, a gramophone recital outside Rohu’s County Market  and  on both days a historical walk of the village conducted by Aidan Murphy who has an indent knowledge of the history of Innishannon. This talk should be of great interest to locals who would like to learn more about their own place.  Enjoy this wonderful weekend the proceeds of which go back into our own community.
